Bandcamp Playlists now public

Kia ora. It's been a long time between posts.

I've mentioned before that Unlimited Freakout began as a radio show on Tāmaki Makaurau's wonderful FLEET FM, and at some point it might assume a similar format again.

Recently, I began compiling playlists using Bandcamp's playlist feature, and also recently, Bandcamp made this feature publicly share-able, from both their app and within your browser.

This is good news for me; because it gives me an opportunity to program playlists again, which I genuinely love doing, and good news for you; because I get to share them with you and if you like the music you're hearing, you'll be able to support the artist/label directly.

I never felt comfortable with Spotify, so this is an ideal way for me to promote what I do, and music I really love, in a relatively ethical way which can directly benefit the people producing it. At some point there will be more radio shows, essays and commentary, but for the moment I am  chronically under-employed, and securing an income is my primary priority.

Bandcamp's playlists are still essentially in Beta, and their model is music store, not streaming service, so there are some constraints, including on the ability to stream tracks in a playlist indefinitely (the current limit is three plays before you are directed to purchase).

I'd recommend treating them as a deep listening opportunity, rather than something for the background. They have definitely been compiled with this in mind, and I pay particular attention to the selection and sequencing of each track to this end.

In the immediate future, I aim to publish a blog post each month to accompany the playlist, and discuss the considerations that informed its selection, and spotlight the artists and labels involved. There are also active Instagram and Facebook accounts, for those of you using these services.

Anyway, there are now three playlists available to stream, and I will publish a new one each month. You can access them from the links below

I am also available for DJ Bookings, should you be looking for something different to your usual. You can connect with me via my gmail; unlimitedfreakout666@gmail.com
